National Harmonica League

HarmonicaUK The National Harmonica League
The NHL is Britain's national harmonica association, with members world wide, supporting and encouraging the playing of all types of music on the chromatic, diatonic, tremolo, octave and chord harmonicas. Paul Jones is our President.

Disclaimer - The NHL provides free advice when looking for harmonia teachers and lessons based on their needs and the available teaching resources in a particular area. This help is given in good faith but the NHL is unable to provide any guarantee or individual endoresment of teachers, therefore enquirers are strongly advised to confirm the suitability and acreditation (including CRB checks where appropriate) of potential teachers themselves.

There are no professional qualifications for teachers, or an approved syllabus and exam. Usually teachers are players who pass on their experience and that of their teacher, if they had one.

Attempts have been made to improve the situation. HTAB was an initiative by players in the UK to establish formal standards for teachers. Unfortunately it is currently on hold within the NHL until suitable process and administrators can be found.

Links to organisations that will provide the best information they have for the regions they have information about have been listed. Please state your location, experience and style of harmonica/music to be learned.

With the spread of the Internet, some teachers are now providing lessons using Skype and other video conferencing programs.

The NHL also runs events and workshops on a wide range of topics related to playing and maintaining harmonicas. For details contact us.
